Our Goals

Relationships

OT for Kids prioritises positive interactions through play. We respect the power of relationships to build interaction, communication, positive behaviours and problem solving. A fun, joyful and respectful relationship with the child is central in helping us to work together on the things that are challenging.

Relationships are built through play and an integrated DIR Floortime approach. We also offer Zones of Regulation and Social Thinking Curriculum to enhance children’s ability to build and maintain friendships.

Partnership

OT for Kids actively builds positive and equal partnerships with parents/caregivers, teachers and other professionals (such as caseworkers, Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, local GPs and Paediatricians) to seek and work towards a common goal.

Parents are encouraged to participate actively in every session. This regular involvement provides parents/caregivers the tools, knowledge and ability to practise with their children at home and in their community. We initiate and foster communication to set and work towards real life outcomes.

OT for Kids also partners strongly with schools and teachers to promote proficient learners and writers. Written expression is one of the most complex and challenging tasks to learn. OT for Kids supports whole classrooms acquire fluent and efficient writing skills including generating ideas, constructing meaningful sentences, and sequencing and organising ideas. We work with whole classes to build the postural and fine motor skills children need for writing legibility and endurance. Our goal is to support schools in growing confidence and a love of writing in their students as well as up-skilling their teachers.

Everyday Learning and Play

OT for Kids have a range of sensory, developmental, behavioural, cognitive and sensorimotor tools in our OT toolbox to enhance children’s ability to learn and participate.
