Getting Started

  1. Intake: You can contact us via phone to schedule an initial appointment with one of our Occupational Therapists. Our friendly Admin Manager can help with questions you might have about availability times, fees or dealing with the NDIS. You will be asked for your for contact details, your concerns about your child, other important people involved in your child’s care, as well as any goals you hope to achieve through occupational therapy. If we don’t have any available appointments, we will happily put your child’s name on our call back list, and advise of any other local services.
  2. For NDIS funded clients: Once you have agreed on an initial appointment time and our office has received all your paperwork (such as referrals or NDIS plan), our Admin Manager (with your agreement) will put together either a short-term NDIS Service Agreement to cover the initial assessment and report, which is generally 6 OT service hours (or longer, depending up your needs). We can only proceed further if we have your agreement in writing.
  3. For all other funded clients: OT FOR KIDS asks all clients such as self funded or funded through a third party, to enter into a agreement which outlines our fees, schedule of OT supports and cancellation policy. This is called Terms of Service Engagement so that all clients know what to expect, what OT FOR KIDs agrees to and families responsibilities when accessing services through OT FOR KIDS.
  4. Evaluation The first session will take 1 hour. You will be present throughout the initial meeting, as you are invited and encouraged to attend and participate in all sessions. Depending upon the referral concerns, you child will participate in a standardised evaluation, typically involving tabletop and gross motor activities, as well as a play-based evaluation. The treating therapist may schedule another appointment time to complete the evaluation and speak to others, such as teachers or speech pathologist. We will only speak to other professionals if you have provided consent for us to do so.
  5. Planning meeting: The therapist will schedule a meeting with you to share and discuss her analysis of the assessment, review intervention options and work with you to set functional goals. The treating OT will make recommendations regarding frequency and location of therapy and, if necessary, arrange for an updated NDIS Service Agreement that reflects this collaboration.
  6. Start therapy: Once service options are chosen and goals are set, you and your child will start sessions with your therapist!
